Deaf News: See Hear recommissioned until 2015!

Posted on September 16, 2013 by

Following our news story about the future of See Hear last Tuesday, which led even Oscar-winning Deaf actress Marlee Matlin to tweet her support, we can report some good news today – the series has now been recommissioned until 2015.

The news had been expected following unofficial reports from visitors to the programme’s offices in Bristol last week. Now there is official confirmation.

A BBC spokesperson said: “See Hear returns to BBC Two on Wednesday 18th September and it is currently confirmed to air until March 2015.”

Prior to the news, last week saw a spike in activity from the Save See Hear campaign, with a new website being set up, to go with their Facebook page (which now has over 2000 ‘Likes’) and Twitter account.

Although the news of the recommission will be warmly received by the campaigners, it may only address some of their concerns. On the website, they point out how the programme lost staff by moving twice (from London to Birmingham then Bristol), plus the fact that team members have been working on short-term contracts.
