Watch: Matt Dixon appearing on ITV local news to talk about healthcare

Posted on February 12, 2014 by

Matt Dixon, the son of a deaf man who was forced to tell his own father that his cancer would kill him, has appeared on ITV’s Calendar local evening news programme appealing for better access to healthcare for deaf people.

Since we first published Matt’s tragic and heartbreaking story last year, Healthwatch has investigated how deaf people are treated by the NHS in York and published a damning report. On Monday, the Healthwatch report and Matt made front page news on York’s daily paper followed by the TV news last night.

We’ve covered many shocking deaf health stories on the Limping Chicken recently. From people being wheeled around hospitals with no idea where they’re being taken to or patients being incommunicado for 12 days; the frequency of reported problems seems to be on the increase. At least in York – people seem to have noticed.
