Go See: Family BSL Pop-up Performances at the V&A Museum in London

Posted on July 21, 2015 by

Did you know that the V&A Museum in London has BSL performances especially for families?

On 1st and 22nd August, three times a day, there will be BSL interpretation of two exciting and unique performances by signer Matthew Wainright from Deaf Umbrella.

Matthew is completely involved in the action of each story, interacting with the performers and the audience throughout. He says:

“Working at the V&A is a rich and rewarding experience. I have worked alongside many talented performers, exploring together the varied ways in which sign language can enrich and deepen the performance for deaf and hearing children alike. I am excited to see where the signed performances go in the future.”

Coming up this summer:

Roar

ROAR! – Saturday 1 August 2015

On 1 August, help bring a stone lion to life in a new puppet show, brought to you by No Nonsense Theatre, creators of the much loved V&A Pop-up Performance Peter Rabbit and Friends.

This takes place on Level 1, in the Cast Courts, Room 46b. This performance is specially devised for early years but is suitable for all the family.

Early years performances supported by Outset Family.

The Man who Chew his Way around the World – Saturday 22 August

On Saturday 22 August, join award winning African Storyteller Usifu Jalloh in this lively and spirited performance and find out all about the man who just has to chew!

This will take place on Level 1, South Asia, Room 41.

All BSL interpretation is supported by the Lord Leonard and Lady Estelle Wolfson Foundation.

Coming up in the autumn:

The puppet show Peter Rabbit and Friends will be interpreted on Saturday 17 October and on Thursday 29 October, there will be interpretation of Indian storytelling as part of the India Festival at the museum.

In addition, on Sundays you can take part in making activities and pick up a back-packs every day from the Learning Centre. We also have activities every half-term, Easter, summer and Christmas holidays.

Visit the museum for a great family day out. There is a café at the museum or if you would like to bring your own food you can eat in the lunchroom or in our lovely garden, which also has a water feature that children can paddle in. Admission to the V&A is free and all Pop-up Performances are free and drop-in.
