Interested in sign language and/or second language acquisition? Are you a learner of BSL, BSL teacher, Deaf professional, work with the Deaf community or work in academia? This event is for you!

Learning British Sign Language (BSL) by hearing people has become a popular language to learn, yet there are few research studies of how this happens and whether signed SLA (second language acquisition) follows similar strategies and stages and spoken language. This event, as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences, will involve:

1) Presentations from two key speakers: Professor Christian Rathmann and Dr. Gerardo Ortega

2) Engaging activities/teaching basic BSL
