DeafATW: Worried about the cap to Access to Work? Then email your MP now using these easy links

Are you worried about the upcoming cap to Access to Work support? What can you do?

Email your MP now; ask them to go to the Westminster debate on deafness Thursday 30^th November to ask about the cap, and ask them to write to Sarah Newton, the new Minister for Disabled People, to ask her to remove the cap.

What’s the problem?

I’ll assume you know about the cap to ATW budgets.  (If not, go to DeafATW/Updates for more information in BSL & English).  

DeafATW surveyed Deaf people who have already had their ATW budget capped or will have it capped in April 2018.

The survey shows that the cap is already having a negative impact on the careers and aspirations of Deaf people. Especially affected are Deaf people who are in or want to be in professional, managerial or leadership roles, who are self-employed or run their own business.  (You can download the results of the survey by clicking here).

They, and I, are worried, that the cap will act as a glass ceiling, having the cap means that Deaf people won’t be able to apply for promotions or look to develop their career, because the ATW support won’t be enough.

This is an opportunity to tell MPs why the cap is a problem, for Deaf people now and the future, and for them to tell the new Minister for Disabled People why she needs to think again.
