Privacy Policy

Who we are

This website address is: http://limpingchicken.com.

Our Editor is Charlie Swinbourne and our contact email is editor@limpingchicken.com.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form (such as the email address and the name the visitor gives, or their WordPress username), and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Email preferences

Our email followers list is administered by WordPress.com and Jetpack. You can read Jetpack’s Privacy Policy by clicking here.

Email followers of Limping Chicken opt in through a two-part process.

In the first instance, they add their email address to a box on the site which says:

Enter your email address to follow this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email. This includes daily blogs and occasional sponsored posts which support the site.

They then receive a confirmation email with a link they click on to confirm they wish to subscribe to (or ‘follow’) emails from the site.

The list of email followers is held by WordPress.com and Jetpack. No record of this list is kept by the Editor of Limping Chicken, however this list can be accessed online (via WordPress.com and Jetpack) by the Editor in order to remove an email follower who has requested to be removed as a subscriber/follower. The list of email addresses is not kept offline and is not shared with anyone else, including any third parties. Only the Editor can access the list.

Email subscribers can also unsubscribe by clicking on ‘unsubscribe’ at the end of their emails or by emailing editor@limpingchicken.com and asking for their email address to be removed.

Followers can also manage these preferences, by going to https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/updates, then toggling the checkboxes as desired, and clicking on the Save Settings button when finished.

Media

If you submit or upload images to the website, you should avoid sending images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to WordPress, WordPress will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in to WordPress, WordPress will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

We use WordPress’s own statistics service (via Jetpack), as well as Google Analytics.

Who we share your data with

As detailed elsewhere on this page, your data is shared with third party providers who provide specific services to the site. Please see the sections on Analytics, Cookies and Where we send your data for more information and links to those companies’ privacy policies.

Only the Editor of this site has access to the limited amount of personal data our users give us by giving their email address to follow the site or by leaving a comment on the site. We do not share any of this personal data with anyone.

By default WordPress also does not share any personal data with anyone.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Users that register with WordPress.com will store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username).

What rights you have over your data

If at any time you would like to see the data that we have access to or hold about you, which may include your email address if you are an email follower, and may include your email address, IP address and name/username if you have left a comment on the site, please contact us by email: editor@limpingchicken.com and we will happily do this. We are also able to erase this information on request.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service called Akismet Anti-Spam, which is run by Automattic.

You can read Automattic’s Privacy Policy here.

Data Breach

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

Contact information

To contact The Limping Chicken about any privacy concerns or queries, please email editor@limpingchicken.com.
