Watch: Philip Bloom’s documentary ‘Ponte Tower’

Absolutely nothing deaf-related about this video at all, but don’t let that put you off.

Respected filmmaker Philip Bloom, who helped judge Deaffest’s Ben Steiner bursary award earlier this year, shot this short documentary about Johannesburg’s Ponte Tower in just one day, and completed it a few days later. Now, there’s a subtitled version too.

Filming without permission, Bloom captures the life and people living in what he describes as a “1970′s architectural monstrosity from the outside that houses an astonishing dystopian science fiction atrium.” Once a desirable place to live, the place fell on hard times when democracy arrived in South Africa.
