There was a special seasonal premiere earlier today, when the BSL Zone’s magical Christmas drama Tree Fairy was shown for the first time on digital television.
The film is about a Deaf girl who finds herself left out at Christmas, before a fairy appears and offers her the chance to make a special Christmas wish!
There are fantastic performances from Deaf actors Olivia Jordan-Caws (who plays the young Deaf girl) and Rebecca Withey (as the fairy), and the film was directed by Deaf director Louis Neethling (Switch, Horatio, Coming Out).
This is Neethling’s third collaboration with writer Rebecca Atkinson, who also wrote Coming Home and Fairytale of London Town, and there are some fantastic special effects.
Below, there’s some images from the film. It’s well worth a watch (look out for the twist near the end!).

What a lovely film! Seen three times now and love it! Congratulations to all involved! Amazing special effects with the fairy too! Love Olivia! What a wee star! Some of the ways Rebecca Withey signed reminded me of the late Dot Miles. Stunning all-round work from everyone and Remark Media! too. The famous animated story ‘The Snowman’ has captured the hearts of many over the years. I think this ‘Tree Fairy’ could be the Deaf version of ‘The Snowman’. Lmr xx

I really enjoyed seeing the preview back in early December! The storyline touched my heart because it’s such a common thing to happen with deaf/hearing family. Have been making sure lots of friends & family have been watching it. My deaf student at school was impatiently waiting for the full version to come out over christmas too once i’d shown her a sneaky preview! Well done to the writers, actors/actresses. Agree with Linda, definately ‘up there’ with Snowman story =) JP xx
