Go see: Deaf Build Expo 2, the leading construction event for deaf people, on 6th June 2015

Building on the success of Deaf Build Expo 1 in 2013, Deaf Build Expo is back by popular demand! The event is run by our supporter, SDHH, and there’s more information below:

Moty Allshever reflects on why he set up Deaf Build Expo:

“The concept started some time ago, when I was asked by a childhood friend of mine, whether I knew of a deaf person who could fix a damaged roof at his London home. After extensive enquiries I managed to source three deaf people, my friend eventually contracted Thomas Salomone of Scorpio Builders. I realised that searching for deaf tradespeople with specialist skills was no easy task, and that this was a niche area. There was quite a few out there, and I started to approach deaf people with specialist skills, such as labourers, plumbers and carpenters.”

“It was clear at this point that no national networking opportunities existed for deaf people working in the building trade. As a deaf businessman I wanted to provide this opportunity, for both contractors and clients alike, enabling full access to information and tips in British Sign Language. I also felt that this provided an important space for young deaf people starting out in the trade, to be inspired by more experienced deaf people.”

“Deaf Build Expo 1 was a hugely successful event with a range of exhibitors and speakers in attendance. At Deaf Build Expo 2 we will have professionals from the construction industry, sharing their top tips that will be fully accessible to BSL users. There will also be a speaker from the UK property industry, offering their insights into current performance and trends for the near future.”
