How deaf people can get NHS hearing aids on their high street thanks to Scrivens Hearing Care

This is a paid-for post in association with Scrivens Hearing Care.

Scrivens Hearing Care, the High Street retailer of digital hearing aids has been improving the quality of life of thousands of deaf people by providing them with free NHS hearing aids.

For people who have never had hearing aids before, the common misconception is that hearing aids are extremely expensive and the process of fitting them long and drawn out, including endless trips to hospital.

Scrivens is aiming to spread awareness of this free service that they provide, which can take as long as it does to pop out to the shops or grab a coffee with friends.

At over 90 locations across the UK, those who have been referred by their doctor can walk in to their local Scrivens branch and be fitted with an NHS digital hearing aid without incurring any cost, in around 45 minutes. In addition, the NHS service provided by Scrivens also includes free access to regular aftercare, advice and a regular supply of batteries.

The NHS service, which has been made possible after a large number of Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) accredited Scrivens Hearing Care to deliver adult NHS hearing care on their behalf, is more than just a quick fix service, but an ongoing support system.

Qualifying customers of all ages across a wide range of locations can benefit – and so far there have been thousands of people reaping the health, social and emotional benefits that these free hearing aids provide.

The team at Scrivens is extremely passionate about this service and is encouraging people to take advantage of free NHS hearing aids and the professional aftercare service, in easy to access and comfortable surroundings.

Stuart Spencer, Training Manager at Scrivens Hearing Care, said:

“We’re proud to be able to offer this service across our High Street stores within the UK and are extremely happy that people can finally receive NHS hearing care in the same way they have been able to access eye care for decades. This free, local service is enhancing the quality of life of so many people.

“If you are experiencing hearing loss, a hearing aid can do so much to improve your state of mind. We see many people of all ages who are avoiding social occasions because they simply find it too much of a struggle. As a result, they become withdrawn and are alone in their struggle with hearing loss. This is why we’re so passionate about this service – it’s helping people get their lives back.“

Being told you have some degree of hearing loss and being fitted with hearing aids can be a daunting experience for many, which is compounded by having to go to hospital for treatment. But by providing NHS hearing care on the high street, Scrivens is providing ongoing care to the communities in which it serves.

Stuart added: “We understand how difficult it can be to adjust to having a hearing aid, and that there may be hundreds of questions you need to ask. We want our customers to know that we’re here to help them through every stage, from initial assessment, to advice on the best course of action, to the eventual fitting and ongoing aftercare. Your hearing aid will be with you for life and we will help you every step of the way.”
