Channel 4 is set to show the UK’s fist sign language-only advert during the Paralympics.
The advert, which features deaf actresses Genevieve Barr and Lara Steward, is one of three which will be shown after the confectionary company Mars won a competition for the strongest campaign featuring disability.
It is understood that the advert will initially air without subtitles.

BSL Zone: TV programmes in BSL for the Deaf community
Should do more ads using BSL only, why? So learners can practise, and it gives hearing folk a taste of what deaf folk have to put up with when it comes to access to TV programs.
I think many will be annoyed because the Malteser ads are really funny at the best of times… nice to see they will have to wait until the subtitled version comes out… does that sound familiar to anyone who is deaf? 🙂
This is not the first signlanguage only commercial: in 2009 (!) there was a commercial in signlanguage only by Douwe Egberts for Senseo. Please find the newsitem (in Dutch, but easy to auto-translate) with the link to this commercial on You Tube: http://www.doof.nl/nieuws/filmpje-nieuwe-reclamespot-senseo-in-gebarentaal/26206.

A tongue-in-cheek message on the value of the hearing aid? It’s value may vanish as fast as a MARS candy!

Why link BSL with Paralympic when Deaf people does not take part of the sport?
