Fulham Football Club have appointed Karim Fayed, son of Chairman Mohamed Al Fayed, to the position of Vice Chairman.
Karim, who is profoundly deaf, is also currently a Director of the club and has previously been involved with Fulham Deaf Football Club.
According to this press release from the club, Alistair Mackintosh, Chief Executive said:
“I am delighted that the Chairman has appointed Karim as Vice Chairman of the football Club. He has been actively involved in all aspects of the Club over recent months, both with the football team and with the constantly growing off-field activity. This reward is an appropriate recognition of his additional contribution and support.”

As a Fulham fan of some 30 years I’ve seen Karim Fayed often attend games with his Dad, and sometimes on his own (with minders) since the Al Fayed take over in 1997. This has always pleased me as I suspected that he would one day become officially involved in club matters as Mohammed, bit by bit, passed on the reins. Obviously I cannot know his remit but I am happy that he has ‘earned his stripes’ and should have an empathy for most things uniquely FFC; he will hopefully cherish our beloved team by the Thames – unlike the fly by night owner looking for a quick buck or the Russian oligarch buying the next thing on the list – as his father has done and perhaps his tenure will bring about some silverware!
Hearing aid or not, for me the right man’s got the job and I wish him well.
