With so much live action and drama, the Olympics have been a true feast of subtitle failings, and we really should give the BBC captioning team huge credit for coping as well as they have and bringing the London 2012 Games to the Deaf masses.
However, we’d much rather point out things like this.
Clearly the lad was destined for the sport from his early ‘buoyhood’.

Hmm…maybe he was born as a buoy on the lonely sea and then was transformed into an Olympic swimmer by a sea-witch. That might explain it.

Very apt indeed and clearly a case of nominative determinism/Freudian slip. (I like the ‘dire rear’ too).
My Dad, now somewhat HoH himself, leaves the subs on nowadays. He texted me that Andy Murray’s home town was rendered by ITV news as ‘Dumb Brain’ after his win on Sunday.

the best one i saw was at one of the basketball matches. The commentator spoke about an big miss from the GB team, but the subtitles read, “bigamist”!
