A classic short documentary that features pupils from Margate’s Royal School for the Deaf has been uploaded to YouTube. Narrated by Richard Burton, ‘Thursday’s Children’, which was made in 1954, offers an insight into the classroom teaching methods of the time.
There are subtitles on this, but they’re automatically created by YouTube’s speech recognition system so they’re often wrong – with hilarious consequences. But if you’re willing to work out what they should say, this is still worth a look.
And if any of the original pupils are out there, do let us know!
