Hero Deaf Pets! Blind, deaf, 3-legged dog saves family from fire

Posted on November 21, 2012 by

Every now and then we like to share stories of heroic deeds from our deaf, yet hard-of-human friends in the animal world. Here’s one story we couldn’t ignore.

When American Katie Crosley woke up one Sunday morning to a persistently wailing Dachshund, she at first thought the blind, deaf, 3-legged dog wanted to go outside.

However, once she opened the door, she realised the dog was trying to alert her family to the smoke and flames consuming their cabin.

The family, including their young son who was born with a heart defect, were forced to make their escape at the back of the cabin, which was destroyed in the blaze.

Katie told a local news programme that she was grateful for so many things, most of all the disabled Dachshund nobody wanted. “We’re thankful for him. This could have been a bad deal.”
