It never happened to Postman Pat.
Scotland’s Daily Record has reported on a story of a Deaf postie who was bitten by a dog without warning, and has now taken time off work as a result…
A DEAF postie has been left too scared to do his job after he was attacked by a dog he couldn’t hear barking.
Graham Duff told yesterday how the large collie-mix sank its teeth into his leg as he delivered letters.
Graham, who has been deaf since birth, was doing his rounds in Inverkeithing, Fife, when the dog struck.
The postie, who has worked for Royal Mail for four years, said: “I feel very angry because I want to be safe and happy in my job, not risking myself.”

Unless Royal Mail are able to go the way of Australia, what are they supposed to do? Refuse to employ deaf people because they may be injured in the course of their work? Dogs? Traffic? There has to be a balance between protecting the workforce and disability discrimination. Or, put another way, risk assessment and risk acceptance.

Wow, I have been deaf since birth and that sounds pretty scary. Why wasn’t that dog on a leash? Susana the Deaf Lady http://deaf47.blogspot.com/
