This chicken doesn’t like to blow its own trumpet too much (honest) but we were proud today when our coverage of Sam Evans’ progress (and eventual victory) in the Channel 4 series Big Brother was mentioned on BBC2’s See Hear.
Our Big Brother correspondent Michelle Hedley was also interviewed on the programme:
The interview with Sam, in which he shows See Hear presenter Memnos Costi around the Big Brother house, is well worth a watch, with Sam coming across as a genuinely likeable guy – which is why he won in the first place.

Well done! Sam was also featured on this week’s edition of The Hub (www.bslzone.com). Looking forward to catching up with See Hear on iPlayer. Lmr xx

I checked out The Hub to see Sam on there too. He comes across really well. I was sad though to see the feature spoilt (in my opinion) by one single comment that was made “he isnt really deaf, and other people might think we are all like him” 🙁 I assume this refers to the fact he didnt sign. Why do we have to sign in order to qualify as being deaf? I have even less hearing than Sam and need to lipread 95 % of the time – I cant “listen” but do not sign either. By this comment though I am not deaf 🙁 Shame when the deaf “community” cannot seem to unite when we all have the same issues. Can we not please just be pleased for Sam?

Hi Michelle, Well, I was awake so watched Sam on the See Hear repeat and he comes across well there too. I think the comment on The Hub about him “not really being Deaf” is that person’s view and refers to the fact that he (Sam) is not a sign language user. I thought he was a level-headed guy and thank goodness he burst the balloon on this over-rated and oft-used comment about ‘role models’. I thought AoHL got away with it for they let him down on the kit he needed. That was the one constant I heard about his time there. They haven’t expertise in this field. It should have gone to a different, albeit commercial, outfit who do this stuff all the time. AoHL were let off lightly and shouldn’t have been. There were other mismatches and issues with the programme but the main thing is we saw that Sam’s just a regular guy which in itself was refreshing. We were lucky. We could have had a far worse ambassador! A question for you… I’ve never watched Big Brother. You obviously do. Whatever will you do with your time now?!! Lmr

Ha ha Linda, I have a social life once big brother finishes! It is a same every year but this series was more than consuming as I basically put my social life pretty much much on hold for 9 weeks! I almost wanted him to be evicted just so that I could get a break LOL! He is so funny, and genuine. I have to admit that I have surprised at the lack of support, but proud of Sam 🙂
