The General Election results are still coming in, but on a good night for the Conservative Party, there has been one notable defeat – with the news in the last few minutes that Esther McVey, former Disability Minister, has lost her seat in Wirral West.
McVey was formerly in charge of the DWP’s Access to Work scheme as part of her role as Disability Minister, and was also the Employment Minister, and as such, was seen as being linked to some of the coalition government’s most hated policies.
Here’s some of the Twitter reaction to her defeat:
Esther Mcvey whinges about brutal campaign. What’s brutal Esther was the way u treated the disabled & vulnerable in this country just go

Evil Esther McVey complaining on BBC election programme about how she “suffered” during the #GE2015 campaign. Disabled/sick suffer, not you!
— Ian Millard (@ianrmillard) May 8, 2015
#EstherMcVey thinks the campaign was brutal she should try feeding a family when your benefit’s been “sanctioned”. That’s brutal.

ESTHER MCVEY DEFEATED IN WIRRAL WEST. I have no words for how jubilant I am right now. She was poisonous at the foodbank debate. She’s gone.

I am surprised that a MP who represents an election district can serve as a minister. That’s not possible in the U.S.

Stephen Lloyd also lost his seat and Malcolm Bruce’s’ seat has been taken from the Liberal Democrats.
I am pleased that these two fake “champions” of Deaf people are out of their jobs. I have nothing but contempt for the pair of them.
