The BDA’s David Buxton has appeared in a new advert for Barclays bank, explaining how offering SignVideo (a supporter of this site) to their customers will give Deaf people better access to banking.

hand wave wave…..for BSL access – hope (both Barclays and Sign Video) they can do speech to text for non deaf sign language user who cannot use the loop system and find lip reading difficult where clear communication is poor. That is progress.
Hope other banks will catch up also all the business too. Well done to Jeff McWhiinney for his many years service to make his project workable everywhere!
It was great to get the sense of ‘normalisation’ as a Deaf TV viewer during ITV’s News at Ten’s commercial break, when I jumped with a start upon seeing the advert.
Kudos to all concerned!!!
Would love to see what hearing viewers think, the advert felt very natural – for once.
