It’s been reported that a deaf woman has saved the lives of two sailors using the new hearing aids she had received only one day earlier.
Extract:
A virtually deaf pensioner saved the lives of two capsized sailors when she heard their desperate cries for help – while trying out her new hearing aids.
Christine Bowden, 77, was sitting in the garden when she heard a man screaming for help half a mile out to sea.
The retired secretary was using two new hearing aids she picked up the previous day.
Christine said: “They were very lucky as I had only just got my hearing aids.
“I was virtually deaf before and had them for less than 24 hours.
“If it had happened the day before I may not have heard them shout – and who knows what would have happened.”

Oh dear …. this does not bode well for informing people as to the practicalities, and limitations, of hearing aids.
Hearing aids aren’t that good! I can’t hear some people on the next table, never mind half a mile away.
Hasn’t anyone thought to mention that water carries sound?

Good heavens!!! My hearing aid is fantastic but hear someone scream half a mile away? No chance!!!! And surely those closer to the men would’ve heard them too? So who heard first?
This story is not that believable for me and it doesnt prove the deaf woman saved them when plenty others could have picked them up too!!!

I suspect the story is a promotional gimmick of the hearing aid industry.
