Go See: Bristol Deaf Worlds festival, 3rd-4th November

Early next month, a special event will be held in Bristol to celebrate 175 years of Deaf people in the city.

The event will celebrate Deaf heritage, describe Deaf schools since 1841, show Deaf adults in Bristol since 1876 and celebrate the 70th anniversary of Elmfield Deaf School (who are one of this site’s supporters).

It will also launch the new Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People.

The event will be held at The Vassall Centre, Gill Avenue, Bristol, BS18 2QQ, from 10am-9pm.

There will be:

  • An exhibition of photographs, trophies, news and video from 1841 to the present day
  • Slide shows
  • Video and films made in Bristol about Deaf people
  • A chance to learn BSL from Deaf teachers
  • A lip-reading challenge
  • A chance to try yoga with deaf people
