Just weeks after Gary Neville donated £20,000 to pay the deposit for the GB Football teams competing at the Deaflympics next year, the Football Association have now pledged £40,000 towards the final costs of the team’s participation.
A Tweet from the official GB Deaf Football account says:
We are pleased to announce the @FA have pledged £40k towards our Deaflympics 2017 target⚽️🇬🇧https://t.co/fuPBAbNRy1https://t.co/scYCWFKBjl pic.twitter.com/LNCmOpHODa

Neville’s original donation came after a football fan called Jimmy McBride directly tweeted both the Football Association and the Premier League, asking them to support the Deaf teams:
Hey @premierleague @FA maybe you could get your hands in your pockets & pass some of the cash you’re wasting away on to @gbdeaffootball https://t.co/yXttNFLdl7

Now it seems as though Neville’s donation has spurred the Football Association on to follow suit.
The team have now raised nearly £65,000 towards their final target of £125,000.
Let’s hope the Premier League are also watching.
