The Mirror has reported that a Deaf civil servant was forced to sit on the floor of a train with her hearing dog, despite having informed them of her needs.
The story reports:
In the clip, watched more than 2,000 times, she says: “So here I am on a train stuck on the floor with Inca because there is just nowhere for us to sit.
“Stranded. Tried talking to the guard, tried being reasonable but they just wouldn’t listen.
“And it’s not just me. There us a poor lady stuck with a pram left standing. Disgusted is not the word.”
In a comment alongside the video, she added: “Guards need to understand we need extra leg room for dogs so people don’t trip over them.
“What’s upset me more is that I booked the assistance.”

I don’t get this. What’s wrong with sitting on the floor with a dog?

Generally speaking there is no room for dogs on trains and that goes for all dogs, unless they are under the table meaning people cannot put their feet down.
Other than that such assistance dogs should sit with their owner in the space normally taken up with wheelchairs, but that depends if a wheelchair user hasn’t booked it first!

If she booked assistance then that should have been honoured. That’s the point of assistance.

But Natalya, she had not booked “assistance”. The dog is the assistance. It sounds like miscommunication somewhere.

Cathy: yes, she does have an assistance dog, but the last line shows that she did book assistance, which included reserving a space for her dog. That was the whole point, the booked assistance wasn’t honoured and the guard refused to help her to her rightful seat.

I hope she doesn’t ask Hearing Dogs for Deaf People for help. The hearing bosses there will just ask (nay..tell!!) her not to rock the boat !!!
