The second programme in BSL Zone’s brand news Close Up: Paddy Ladd Trilogy is on TV this week.  Dr Paddy Ladd, who is known worldwide for coining the term Deafhood, talks to Tessa Padden about how he became involved in the Deaf community for the first time.

Last week, the first programme in the trilogy focussed on Dr Paddy Ladd’s traumatic childhood.

This week, in Close Up: Paddy Ladd (Part 2), Paddy discusses his experiences which led him from being a hippy university graduate to one of the leading activists in the Deaf community.

This interesting programme also explains the establishment of the National Union of the Deaf (NUD), which campaigned for many different things. A founder member of the NUD, Paddy was also a pioneer at the beginning of TV programmes for Deaf people. Don’t miss this Deaf history-packed interview!

You can view a trailer in the video on this page.
