After conquering the Oscars, the short film everyone is talking (or signing) about is now set to be screened to its biggest audience so far, with a prime time slot on Good Friday on BBC1.
The Silent Child is the story of a young Deaf girl who lives in silence, before a social worker starts teaching her sign language.

Just last month, director Chris Overton and writer/star Rachel Shenton won the Best Short Film award at the Oscars, with Shenton making headlines by signing as she gave her speech.
The fact that a film that is so pro-BSL is being shown in a prime slot promises to raise awareness of the issue of Deaf children’s access to BSL, still a much-debated topic today, as many Deaf children are brought up using only lipreading and listening.
