Saturday Live is a BBC Radio programme that goes out live on Saturday mornings. Richard Coles and Aasmah Mir interview interesting guests with stories to tell.
On 24th March 2018 they interviewed Darren Townsend-Handscomb about being a CODA (Child of Deaf Parents), becoming a sign language interpreter, the Gambia Interpreter Project, and interpreting with a Deaf ghost.
Although a written transcript of the interview with Darren is available, there was no BSL translation, until now!
Matthew Banks has now done this beautiful interpretation of the parts of the programme where Darren was interviewed. There are six clips, first an introduction, then the five sections of the interview.
We hope you enjoy the stories. If you’d like to know the FULL story about interpreting for a Deaf poltergeist (completely true), Darren has promised to tell the full story, in BSL and in English, when the Gambia Interpreter Project reaches 51% of its £26,000 target. So you know what to do: http://tiny.cc/gambia

Really interesting to be able to see the transcript and BSL translations. Thanks!
Also interesting to see the importance of sustainability for the Gambia sign language project and Darren very clearly explaining about colonialism and ethics, really clear to those who don’t know context/history etc.
