On Tuesday 26th June, the Access to Work legal case challenging the cap, is being heard at the Royal Courts of Justice.
Why is this important?
The Access to Work cap largely affects Deaf BSL users, but Disabled people from all impairment groups have also suffered through changes to the Access to Work disability employment support scheme.
The changes have made it harder and harder for Deaf and Disabled people to get into and stay in work.
But didn’t the government raise the cap?
The government announced earlier this year that they had raised the cap. This does not address the issue that any form of cap discriminates against Deaf and Disabled people with high support needs.
Whilst some government measures announced do promise to improve certain issues with the scheme, many other issues remain a problem.
We do not believe government would have raised the cap or announced any measures were this court case not going ahead.
Access to Work Vigil
We will be holding a vigil outside the court to show our support and solidarity to the claimant, David Buxton. The vigil will begin at 9.30am on Tuesday 26th June. It is really important that as many Deaf, Disabled people, BSL/English interpreters, support workers and allies attend.
It really does make a difference if the court sees how much support there is for an issue. We need the whole community to come together to oppose the discrimination of the cap.
The court proceedings will be BSL interpreted.
Please do come and join us. If you can’t make it, you can still support us on social media. Use the hashtag #ScraptheAtWCap.

No, far more important is the issue of unemployed Deaf people being denied social security, or other injustices.
Get you priorities right.
