The story of Clara Daly, a 15 year old teenager who helped a Deafblind man to communicate on a flight has gone viral.
A fellow passenger explained how the Deafblind man, Tim, had been unable to understand the flight crew, who then asked if any passengers knew ASL. Clara stepped forward, having been learning ASL for a year due to her dyslexia.
A California teen is getting attention after she stepped up to help a man on her flight who was blind and deaf.
Clara Daly has been studying sign language for less than a year, but her skills were good enough to help the man communicate and to help keep him company.
Daly and her mother were flying home from Massachusetts when a flight attendant asked if anyone knew American Sign Language.
“So, then I pressed the call button and she came and she was like ‘So, we have a passenger on the plane who’s blind and deaf, so do you know how to finger spell?’ And I was like ‘Yeah, I totally know how to finger spell,’” Daly said.
Daly signed each letter in every word so that the man could feel her hands.
