Teresa Garratty: Join me at the Sign Connect launch party in Wolverhampton on Nov 16th!

Posted on November 13, 2018 by

Winter is here. The season where people develop brief emotional attachments because there’s nothing to do and its cold outside.

I believe the term for this is ‘cuffing season’, although strangely, it has nothing to do with handcuffs…unless you’re into that sort of thing…

To save you the aggro of an awkward spring break-up, why not keep yourselves single and busy over the cooler months? I know it can be hard to find deaf friendly events etc so I’ll even give you a tip off to get started!

Jot the 16th November down in your diary. RIGHT. NOW.

There’s a cool launch party coming up for a new company called Sign Connect in Wolverhampton.

They work with companies to make them realise that by only using written English, they’re missing out on some pretty important clients. Aka, people with learning difficulties, vision impairments and of course, BSL users.

There’s even an app, because, hello, it’s twenty eighteen people! The app will scan a QR code on a company document (bank statements, hospital letters, benefit forms etc) and then a pre recorded BSL translation of the text will play right before your very gosh darn eyeballs!

There will also be voice recordings for blind people too. Welcome to the freakin’ future!

There’ll be a demo at the launch including interpreters and you can read more on their website. The QR codes look like this:

And that one will even take you to their website, give it a go!

If you’re still not sure whether to go, there are three other big reasons to get your butts down there. Tickets are FREE and there will also be FREE food and drink!

Here are the details again, enjoy and save some free stuff for me!
