How to call NHS 111 using BSL via InterpreterNow

Posted on February 20, 2019 by

Feeling unwell – don’t know what to do – worried?

NHS 111 can help if you have an urgent medical problem and you’re not sure what to do.

This could be for yourself, your child, other family member or friend you notice who is not well and may need medical advice.

Contact NHS 111 using InterpreterNow online BSL Video Relay Service (VRS).

All you need is a computer, laptop, mobile smartphone or tablet.

Contact the online interpreter who will call NHS 111 and interpret between you (the Deaf person) and NHS 111 (advisor).

How the service works:

Using your computer and webcam, or the InterpreterNow app on your smartphone or tablet, you make a video call to a BSL interpreter.

The interpreter telephones an NHS 111 adviser and relays your conversation with them. The NHS 111 adviser will ask you questions to assess your symptoms, then give you the healthcare advice you need or direct you straightaway to the local service that can help you best.

Where possible the NHS 111 team will book you an appointment or transfer you directly to the people you need to speak to.

If NHS 111 advisers think you need an ambulance, they will immediately arrange one for you.
