Deaf News: Deaf Connection closure leaves 100 Deaf people in Glasgow without support

After 197 years of service, the charity Deaf Connections, based in Glasgow, has suddenly closed its doors, leaving 100 elderly Deaf people in the city without support.

This comes in the wake of other major closures in recent times affecting local Deaf communities, such as the closure of Walsall Deaf Club and the closure of East Lancashire Deaf Society.

Glasgow Live said:

Volunteers and care staff were informed early on Wednesday that they had until 5pm that day to clear belongings out of the charity’s Norfolk Street base, in which the group has been based for the past 25 years.

And this has led to serious concerns about the fate of 130 Deaf Connections’ members, most of whom are elderly, who are without support today.
