Deaf vlogger Jessica Kellgren-Fozard has been revealed as a star of a new series on emotional wellbeing on YouTube.
Titled The School of Happiness, the film coincides with the release of The School of Life, a new book by Alain de Botton.
In the video, Jessica says she is “mostly deaf and partially visually impaired”, with narrator adding that she “doesn’t let it get her down”.
“I guess that’s why you’ve asked me to be your exhibit on happiness in this film. It’s important to remember that I have the same needs and desires for happiness, just like everyone else.
“It’s just that I faced a fair few obstacles along the way,” she says.
In addition to being deaf, Jessica also has the nerve disorder HNPP and a rare auto-immune disorder named MCTD.
Introducing her ‘seven secrets of hapiness’, she goes on to add, “Because I have health problems, I’ve had to learn to find happiness when my body is trying to bring me down.
“As such, I’ve developed a pretty unique perspective on what actually makes us happy.”
You can watch the full episode with subtitles below to find out what the seven secrets are, or take a look on The School of Life YouTube channel.

A lot of this I agree with, but the money aspect was given short shrift and that’s a mistake. The guy who said ‘financial stability’ is smart. It’s not about having a lot of money, but about being assured of a decent bare minimum.
‘Maslow’s hierarchy of needs’ illustrates this point well. Only once your basic needs are taken care of can you then think about growth and the other fine things put forward in the video.
