Tributes paid to Deaf footballer Huseyin Er

Tributes have been paid to the Deaf footballer Huseyin Er, who was a star player for St John’s Deaf Football Club in London and for Turkey’s Deaf football team.

Er won all of the domestic trophies with St John’s and was the only UK Deaf player to achieve Gold in the Deaflympics, European Championships and the World Cup for Turkey.

Numerous social media posts have shown how well regarded Er was, by fellow players, Deaf football fans and friends.

The posts have spoken of their shock at his sudden death, many describing him with words such as humble, an icon, a legend, the king of Deaf football.

Numerous former teammates have spoken of their gratitude for how Huseyin supported them when they joined St John’s.

A shrine has been set up at St John’s Deaf Club tonight.
