Our reader Catherine Finch has got in touch with lyrics for a parody song about the lack of subtitles on Channel 4 and other TV channels over the last three weeks.
She’d love to see a BSL version of this, to the tune of the song Grease is the Word, so if anyone out there would like to do this, just let us know and we’ll put you in touch with Catherine.
Here’s her parody song:
Seeing the Words (to the tune of Grease is the Word)
Switch off from our problems on a Friday night
Watch Gogglebox on television, having a laugh
But there’s no captions and we can’t relate
We deaf are angry and sad, and we are missing First Dates
Seeing the words..
Ignore our outrage and internal pain
Why don’t they understand, it’s just a crying shame
Lips are impossible to read for real
So we won’t stop the fight, they gotta know what we feel
Seeing the words
Seeing the words, knowing the words you’ve not heard
It includes, we belong [it’s the greatest feeling]
Seeing the words is essential, it’s vital
Seeing the words gives meaning..
Sprinklers with data units – not a good mix
Subtitles disappeared in sizzling voltage fizz
They coulda fixed it, but no one planned ahead
We start believing that we’re not important enough.
Seeing the words
Seeing the words, knowing the words you’ve not heard
It includes, we belong [it’s the greatest feeling]
Seeing the words is essential, it’s vital
Seeing the words gives meaning..
This is a life of exclusion
Wrapped up in trouble
Laced with confusion
What are you saying?
Ignore our outrage and internal pain
Why don’t they understand, it’s just a crying shame
Lips are impossible to read for real
So we won’t stop the fight, they gotta know what we feel
Seeing the words
Seeing the words, knowing the words you’ve not heard
It includes, we belong [it’s the greatest feeling]
Seeing the words is essential, it’s vital
Seeing the words gives meaning..
