A ‘silent moment’ in Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovani Pernice’s dance on Strictly Come Dancing tonight has generated a massive reaction online, with the word ‘sobbing’ trending shortly afterwards and ‘Rose’ becoming the second highest trending topic on Twitter.
Rose told the audience beforehand that there would be a moment in the dance for the deaf community. And she didn’t disappoint.
Even better, after the dance she said what a joy it was to be deaf.
Watch the silent moment below:
"In this dance we have a very special moment, and I'm doing it for the deaf community." 💖 So much power in the silence of Rose and Giovanni's routine. #Strictly @RoseAylingEllis @pernicegiovann1 pic.twitter.com/kW8OTggI5X

The couple were dancing the Couple’s Choice to Symphony by Clean Bandit featuring Zara Larsson.
Beforehand, there was a pre-clip where Rose went to visit Deafinitley Theatre and their Artistic Director, Paula Garfield. She was shown talking to the young actors there. We also saw Rose’s mum saying how proud she was of her.
After the silent moment, judge Motsi Mabuse was in tears, and said it was a beautiful moment. Shirley Ballas stood up and said it took us into a deeper place and the deaf community would be so proud of her. While Craig Revel-Horwood simply said fab-u-lous! The couple were awarded 39 by the judges.
On our live blog, regular LC writer and dancer Rebecca-Anne Withey gave her verdict:
That was so special! From beginning to end Rose performed beautifully. From the tips of her fingers to the faultless lifts. I LOVED the part in silence, it was touching and powerful. I have tears in my eyes. 10!!!!!!!
