An Australian sign language interpreter has been filmed being pooed on by an owl during a government press conference, before quickly taking off his jacket and carrying on with the job.

Mikey Webb, who interprets briefings delivered by Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuck, received the unfortunate good luck charm on Thursday, when the politician was providing an update on flood damage in the area.

After the bird relieved itself on Mr Webb, the Auslan interpreter could be heard saying “oh s***” as he wiped himself clean of the excrement.

Meanwhile Ms Palaszczuck said in the background: “Oh no. Has anyone got tissues?”

“I’m going to answer quickly,” added deputy premier Steven Miles, who quickly resumed the press conference with Mr Webb interpreting in his white shirt.

While the incident may have been unpleasant for the interpreter, it has since been revealed that the bird poo may have afforded him some good luck after all.

In a tweet posted on Friday, accompanied with a picture of Mr Webb in a new suit, Ms Palaszczuck  wrote: “Guess who won a meat tray last night! Mikey had some good luck after yesterday’s press conference.
