Channel 4 faces further ‘technical issues’ as several shows come without subtitles on All 4

Channel 4 has reaffirmed its commitment to have 100% of shows on its All 4 streaming service subtitled by the end of the year, despite several shows still being inaccessible due to “isolated technical issues”.

The broadcaster pledged to improve its accessibility back in March, just months after the regulator Ofcom announced it would investigate Channel 4 over its subtitles outage last year.

The channel said at the time: “In 2022, Channel 4 will return to 100% subtitles across all linear channels [and] commit to achieve 100% subtitles on All 4 by the end of 2022.”

However, Channel 4 has continued to face complaints over the lack of access to several high-profile shows, including new thriller The Uncivil War and episodes of the celebrity gameshow Taskmaster.

In a statement issued to The Limping Chicken, a spokesperson for the broadcaster said: “Recently, we have experienced isolated technical issues that have affected the provision of subtitles and audio description for specific programmes.

“We are currently working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and would like to apologise to viewers who rely on these services.

“Channel 4 remains committed to providing subtitles for all the shows on All 4 by the end of the year.”

The latest issues come after Ofcom’s investigation concluded Channel 4 had “breached its license conditions” by failing to inform deaf viewers about a subtitles shortage in September.
