Deaf actress Alexandra James has been cast in the upcoming series of Sex Education, the popular Netflix series chronicling the lives of staff and students at a fictional secondary school.
Alexandra will join the show as Aisha in its fourth series, which is currently filming. Regulars Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas), Aimee Lou Wood and Ncuti Gatwa (who will take over from Jodie Whitaker as the next Doctor) will return to their roles.
James, who previously starred in BBC Three’s The Break, was announced as a new cast member on Friday, alongside Schitt’s Creek actor Dan Levy, Doctor Who‘s Thaddea Graham and Kamikaze‘s Marie Reuther.
Other newcomers include Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa and Imani Yashua.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Alexandra wrote: “I am so honoured to be joining the Sex Education family! That’s right, your girl is going to be on Season 4.
“Thanks to Eleven and Netflix you will be able to watch me slay on your TV screen very soon! I’ll be playing Aisha, and I am so excited to share her with you all!
“It has been a wild journey so far and I am so lucky and grateful to have Felix Mufti and Anthony Lexa by my side for this incredible adventure!”
While no release date has been confirmed for the next season, with filming only just getting underway it’s understood season four will hit the streaming platform in 2023.
