Deirdre Maguire: My 2019 bucket list!

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And auld lang syne and something and something else.

When the clock strikes 12, people tend to gather and sing this traditional tune from Robert Burns whilst forgetting the words and pretending to know the rest (As a Deafie which meant I never really knew it, I just crossed my arms having them pumped up and down and smiling like an eejit.)

As someone who grew up in Scotland aware that celebrating the New Year is a big thing here, they even have their own name for it- ‘Hogmanay’ and people go bonkers at midnight when the Edinburgh Castle fire a cannonball to mark the new year’s arrival along with drunken promises and resolutions.

Recently I found myself thinking about making resolutions and tried to recall the ones I’ve made and ones I’ve actually managed to do… not one came to mind!  SO for 2019 I’ve decided instead of resolutions, I will create a bucket list and attempt to smash it! 

So far I’ve come up with:  

1. Write more, hey I’ve already made a start on this! 

2. Take a train from Budapest to Vienna as I really like trains!

3. Visit the duck shop in Brighton, I’m quackers about ducks!

4. Eat at a 2 star Michelin restaurant and pretend I know something about fancy food.

5. Go on a barista course and make kick-ass coffee for myself.

6. Tour the Harry Potter studio with a BSL guide and cast a spell on the World Leaders to sort them out.

7. To attempt an escape from the Doctor Who themed escape room. I’m a proud Whovian!

8. To be able to eat a meal at Nandos’ mild spice level, I’ve only been able to eat at the extra mild level (mango and lime).

9. Say yes to everything for 24 hours, not that I would tell you when this is happening! 

10. Drive a vehicle, I’ve never learnt how to drive due to my rubbish eyesight but would like to actually drive something one day even if it is someone up the wall!
