First 10 inductees for Signature’s Hall of Fame announced (BSL)

The awarding body Signature revealed its first 10 inductees to its Hall of Fame last night, in an awards ceremony held at the National Football Museum in Manchester.

The charity are an awarding body for British Sign Language, lipspeaking, translating, notetaking, and speech to text reporting.

A special award, the Stewart Simpson Hall of Fame Award, was awarded to former EastEnders actress and Strictly Come Dancing winner Rose Ayling-Ellis.

The 10 inductees are:

  1. David Buxton
  2. Clark Denmark
  3. Charlie Swinbourne
  4. Deaf Village North West
  5. Performance Interpreting
  6. Leeds City Council Deaf (DAHIT)
  7. Ahmed Mudawi
  8. City Lit
  9. Lipspeaker UK and Lesley Weatherson
  10. Chief Inspector Emma Gilbert

John Walker, chair of Signature, said to all inductees: “Continue doing what you’re doing. You have made many many changes – continue. We will work alongside you.”

The awards ceremony also included the news that Deaf sport memorabilia would be included in the National Football Museum’s collection – for the first time in its history.
