Nathan Rollinson and Nicolas Fairford on their podcast, ‘A Dose of Dandy’ – and Christmas tips

Posted on November 10, 2025 by

A Dose of Dandy is a ten-episode podcast hosted by two best friends – one hearing, one deaf – where conversations sparkle with honesty and together they redefine elegance for the modern age. The series explores life through their unique, intertwined perspectives and together, they discuss finding beauty in simplicity, grace in imperfection, and joy in the little things that make life truly dandy.

Each episode unfolds delightfully – like a relaxed chat over coffee (or perhaps a perfectly poured martini), full of laughter, reflection, and gentle wisdom. With Nathan signing as he speaks, and Nicolas communicating with such awareness and consideration of his friend, the captioned shows are beautiful examples of true inclusion and the power of friendship.

A highlight of every show is the “Dandy Dilemma,” where the pair tackle thought-provoking questions and good-natured debates, proving that friendship doesn’t mean always agreeing, but always listening. At its heart, A Dose of Dandy is about connection between people, ideas, and experiences. It’s a celebration of friendship, refinement, and the art of slowing down to appreciate the details that make life worth living.

The founders and co-hosts, Nathan Rollinson and Nicolas Fairford, tell us about their favourite episodes. For Nathan, his favourite is ‘The Art of Saying No.’

“This episode resonates deeply with me because it speaks to something we all struggle with, which is boundaries. In the deaf community, social interactions can sometimes carry an unspoken pressure to say “yes” to attend, to participate, to accommodate even when doing so leaves us drained or overlooked.

This episode reminds us that saying “no” is not an act of defiance but of self-respect. It’s a quiet, dignified way of choosing balance over burnout. We talk about how to approach these conversations with humility, empathy, and grace. It is the kind of etiquette that makes boundaries feel kind rather than cold. In a world that often prizes constant availability, learning to say “no” becomes a radical act of self-care.

For me, this episode encapsulates the essence of A Dose of Dandy: thoughtful reflection, emotional honesty, and the courage to live with intention. Saying “no” isn’t rejection. It’s an invitation to honour yourself, your time, and your peace of mind.”

Nicolas Fairford explains that his favourite episode is called ‘Reinvention.’

“Reinvention is a theme that has followed me throughout my life and one that I hold dear. Coming from humble beginnings, I learned early on that life doesn’t have to be defined by where you start. It’s defined by what you make of it.

Reinvention, for me, is about curiosity, courage, and the refusal to settle. It’s about taking charge of your narrative, elevating your surroundings, and evolving with purpose. The world moves at a dizzying pace, and staying still can mean being left behind. One of my greatest inspirations, Martha Stewart, once said, “If you are through changing, you are through.” That quote has always stayed with me.

Reinvention isn’t about becoming someone else, it’s about becoming more of who you are, again and again, with refinement and grace. This episode captures that spirit perfectly. It’s hopeful, empowering, and reminds listeners that transformation is always within reach, no matter where you begin.”

Nathan and Nicolas have shared their tips with Limping Chicken readers for a more elegant and calm Christmas, as we enter the darker months.

They believe a touch of dandy spirit doesn’t stop at conversation! It extends into how we celebrate, connect, and create beauty at home. Their advice is as follows;

  1. Be prepared

Elegance begins with calm. Plan your meals and gatherings in advance, and prepare what you can ahead of time. Visualise how you want the day to feel then work backwards to make it effortless. When you prepare well, you make space for joy.

  1. Don’t get caught up in consumerism

Christmas isn’t about extravagance; it’s about connection. The most meaningful moments cost nothing such as laughter, storytelling, shared meals. Focus on memories, not materials, and your Christmas will feel instantly more elegant.

  1. Put in effort at home

A beautiful Christmas starts with thoughtfulness. Create a warm, welcoming atmosphere: candlelight, winter greenery, twinkling lights, and small, personal touches that make guests feel cherished. When your home feels loved, everyone who enters will too.

  1. The Dandy Game: Christmas mystery quest

For something playful, host an interactive game that combines trivia and scavenger hunt clues inspired by Christmas traditions, films, songs, and history. It’s the perfect way to bring people together.

  1. A closing ritual

End the evening by gathering everyone together for a moment of reflection. Invite each person to share what they’re most grateful for this season, followed by a small toast to friendship, love, and the simple pleasures that make life so wonderfully dandy.
